I am making a set of beaded mandalas which I plan to use as embellishments on the crazy quilt I am making for my Crazy Quilt Journal Project this year.
Gardening and spring flowers definitely influenced my stitching this month in all of my work. The crocuses, grape hyacinths, and daffodils have come up in my yard to greet the spring weather (all three crocuses, two daffodils, and five-hundred-thousand-ish hyacinths that survived the floody-wet winters, anyway.) It's the color combo of spring greenery, daffodil yellow, and hyacinth purple/blue that determined my color selection for this month's BJP. :)

BJP - March
This is the crazy quilt block I embellished for March. I attempted to translate some stitches into beading and added beads to others.
January BJP
My January BJP at last! My goal is to expand the ways I use beads in my stitching. For this one, I rusted some fabric and then embellished it with gold seed and bugle beads.
I made the piece of fabric into a small art quilt which is on it's way to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI) for my March donation to the cause.

January-February BJP
I finally finished my February piece, which I call Hunger Moon. Normally the moose do not eat the Spruce trees, but this winter has been an exception. They have pruned every bush and tree in our yard. The snow is so deep and frozen that they have been hanging around town where the snow is not quite as deep. We had a moose on our deck because he could not get around the snow berm in front of the house. Its been a hard winter on every living creature around.

At last- something to celebrate!
Oh, how I have been struggling with this project- and not with time constraints- the actual work. I've documented this on my blog, but I'm so glad to say that after 3 failed attempts to fully bead my blocks, and despite your wonderful support and comments here I gave up on that design layout. I had an epiphany working on another project and now it's all moving ahead speedily... huge sighs of relief!!

baby journal project
These three months have flown by, work is consuming all beading time. Oh, wait I'm so thankful for the work! The news of both my daughter and DIL having babies has triggered some fun ideas and I have settled on one for development. I will post January and February soon. Today traveling to Santa Fe, we stopped in Flagstaff...found a fun bead shop, Animas Beads on Rt66, and added two cabochons to my collection for the BJP. But while I was sharing this idea, out popped "baby journal project" and it was a realization to me of how I will be connected creatively with my new mommys-to-be. This opportunity to journal artistically about their new life journey is inspiring. And I am beading on the road...progress report soon!!!
March and April rivolis
You can see both my March and April rivolis on my blog. I finished the April one early as I will have family visiting, then I will be away until almost the end of April.

January BJP Finished!
I know it's a little late to announce this, but hey, I accomplished something! Sometimes I feel like I accomplish things at the speed of molasses. That's what I get for choosing a project that takes 18 hours to complete. Come look!

A Different Priority for February
As February was coming to an end, a different priority surfaced. I needed to spend my energies on another beading project. I completed that project this weekend. A small part of it is pictured above.
Now it's back to my February BJP. I'll finish it in the next day or two. Then I'll begin on March.
If you want to see the rest of the item I've been beading for the past couple of weeks and why it was so important, come on over to my blog Crackpot Beader.

Here is our first March collage
I've updated the January and February collages and it seemed a good idea to start March off too.
We produced 39 pieces in January and 29 so far in February. If you'd like a piece to be included in a previous month, please shout. It might be fun to post all the collages together at the end of 3, 4 or 6 months. What do you think?
Connie - BJP for March
My bead journal project for March has been completed. Visit my blog to see the inspiration piece and to read about my take on it. Also, if you click on the BJP tab near the top of my blog you can see all three projects to date.

For those that asked, I will continue to make the holiday ornaments, but they are a very slow process.

Double Infinity - March "pie slice" in Chalcedony
This piece started quickly, hit a rough patch, but is now finally done. I am really happy with the way it turned out :) Take a look and see for yourself.
The inspiration for my 2012 Beaded Journal 5" pie slices comes form the Book of Revelations and the description of the 12 Foundation Stone of the New Jeruselum.
The third stone is CHALCEDONY, in which can be found found 'the flame of inner charity'. Funny how things work out because this month I was asked to take over a ministry I've been involved with at my church!!!!
Anyway, when I read what the third stone was I was so happy because I knew I has 2 pale yellow chalcedony beads in my stash; you just don't forget a name like that. I then purchased a string of pale blue chalcedony spikes and my pallet was born. I quickly found some vintage yellow hexes I thought matched well and some 11's in a metallic teal sort of color. OF course, you'll find the swarovski lochrosens in this piece as well as the large pearl (representing the gates into New Jerusulem) and the tatting which I refused to put in my drawer upon purchasing it. One thing I like about the BJP - i use up lots of my stash!!!
Here it a photo of Jan/Feb/MArch together. Can't wait for April...

February BJP Done!
Well, I'm a week late, but my February piece is done. I was taking an online lettering course with Joanne Sharpe and my beading got set aside (okay, totally neglected) but I've worked really hard in the last couple of days to get it done. Please visit my blog to see it, and while you're there, check out my give-away for a chance to win!!!

MAD MARCH HARES!
We have a saying in the UK 'mad as a March hare'. It derives from the behaviour of hares in their breeding season, which starts here in March. They appear to box each other and jump in the air. If you get up early, you might be lucky enough to see them leaping about in a meadow. I've only seen hares 'boxing' once and that was a long time ago.
I've used 'boxing' hares as my theme for March but, being a geriatric martial artist, I've changed their sport and awarded them both black belts! I've tried to represent the idea of the Vernal Equinox (20th March this year) by balancing day & night, sun & moon, silver and gold. The sun and moon designs on the hares' bodies were influenced by Huichol Indian beadwork.
The beads I used for the edging are from a broken rope of jet beads that belonged to my great-grandmother. I hope she would be amused that I've recycled them in this way! The bits of leather were from charity shop finds.
I've included a few details on my blog (link on the right) of some of the things that didn't go quite as I'd planned.
PS I've just added some close-up photos so you can see what I mean!

February Collages
Rather than wait for all the pieces to be finished, I've made a 3rd collage for February which can be added to as and when. (I've included a pretty January piece which slipped through the net.) I've not reposted all 3 collages here, but may do so when they've disappeared off the current page. Please scroll down and have a look.

March came in like a lion...
at least the month did. But my March combo of Crazy Quilt Journal, Color Palette and Bead Journal challenges moved fairly quickly. You can see it here (but a warning, my blog is loading VERY slowly today and I'm not sure why...).

February Project
I am trying to incorporate more beads in my crazy quilting in more interesting ways - this little six inch block is my journal piece for February.
The paisley uses bugle beads, sead beads and sequins and I made and incorporated a sequin flower.
Incorporating the beading right into the embroidery motif worked well on this peacock feather I think.

So I haven’t thrown out a question
for a couple of weeks. I think it is fun to pose a question and see what people
have to say. I always learn something and it seems to bring people
together. My question today is about your Bucket list for your art, As in
things you may have on your mind that you would like to achieve or
experience. Anything from “I want one of my pieces to hang in the Louvre”
to “I want to actually finish a piece.”
“Art,” by the way means YOUR art. It can be
painting, beading, writing, gardening, cooking, teaching, designing – it’s the
way you express yourself and create.
So here it is: Share one of the
short term and one of the long term entries on your Art Bucket List – Either on
my blog or in the comments below.
March bead journal
Here is a close up of the beading I did on my rust photo. I use the word beading loosely as I have used clock gears and a watch face as 'beads'. I am pleased with this piece. You can see the whole thing on my blog.

February by Diana S.
Once again I created a fusion of textile fabric and beads and February was created. I've kept it simple and understated to get my complete message into my design.
The lace and tulle begin to create a crown fit for a princess. I beaded the tiara over the lace. Then I beaded the heart and arrow as the centerpiece. Worthy of a 4 star general, I set in a four heart epilet to complete my design.
With my sewing machine, I added hearts and stars using silver thread.

HERE WE GO WITH FEBRUARY! - updated 11th March
Again I've tried to pick all the pieces up, but please let me know if you have finished and are missing!
I've made a 3rd collage for February. I'll add to it as pieces are finished.

12 pictures per collage seems a good number. We've had nearly 40 pieces for January. An amazingly varied body of work yet again. Fantastic!
March button done
Hi all - got this one done early. I had started March to be me driving home from Florida, but I changed it to a healing theme. The driving home will be for April as now I plan to leave a little later. Here is my March BJP button which is a healing button using many healing stones to combat cancer and chemo.
Have a BEADdazzled Day.

March Beaded Rock
Well March decided to come in like a lion here in the northwoods of Wisconsin. We received 2 feet of snow on Wed. It's great! Well anyways...here is my March project. I decided to be a little more color coordinated with this one. There are more closeups at my blog http://thebeadedneedle.blogspot.com/. And I've already started my next project. Some many ideas....so little time :) Hope everyone has a wonderful month. Susan
