April and May, finally

I haven't been on this site since I posted my last two pieces, Feb and March. I went to look at that entry to see if there were any comments. All of you who wrote have touched my heart with your good wishes and healing energy. Thank you. I am tolerating the chemo very well and had a great report from my Scan, "a significant response," and have had two more treatments since. My last is a week from Monday, and then another trip to Boston for Scans and the doctor's appt.

I haven't been doing a lot of beading, however, I finally finished my May BJP piece two days ago. I had finished my April one a couple of weeks ago but, obviously, never got to post it. So, here they are.

I have been most blessed and am very grateful to have been able to travel to LA for our first grandson's birth, at the beginning of April. Ethan Alexander Rochlin was born April 6th and we were there.

I've shown the airplane flying through the sky and clouds over the mountains. The charm on the left is of a dragon, as this is the year of the Dragon; the other two charms say "Family" and "#1 Grandma" and are self explanatory. I used pearls, hessonite, dyed purple stones, andalusite, peridot, and hearts of rose quartz, jasper, and Mother of Pearl. It was so special being there and it was last minute, as we had a window of time before my next treatment, and if Grace hadn't delivered naturally, she was going to be induced the day before we had to travel home. As it turned out, he was born on Friday, so we had two day in which to be with him. A miracle all around.

May is always about flowers for me.

I used a real flower under acrylic and a couple of charms, one of three flowers and one of bamboo. The rest are pearls, glass beads, flowers, and leaves, and sequins. I love the variety of flowers and leaves which are available to we beaders. Variety is the spice of life!

So, I'm now caught up with my monthly projects and have to figure out what I'll be creating for June.

Here's a picture of Ethan and me on the day he was born and then Ethan at a few weeks old. He's eight weeks old tomorrow.

Isn't he beautiful?

May Zodiac block...

I was sure that I'd posted this earlier- oh well! May's block is Taurus...

I've posted updates on my blog    although I've not done much more to the main hanging lately, too many other projects on the go...
June's is almost done, so I can post that soon, and squeeze in a little time to border some of the blocks with semi-precious crystals and beads.

March BJP done!

I finally got to post my March beaded button! This one was inspired by 2 events: The one year anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear disaster and my radiotherapy treatement for thyroid cancer. On March 28th, I had to swallow the exact same poison that comes out of the Fukushima nuclear plant: I-131 (radioactive iodine). As soon as I swallowed the pill, I became a danger to others because I was radioactive. I had to stay in full isolation for 5 days, and, for another 10 days, I had to keep a distance of 2 meters between me and people. My husband add to wear a radiation counter for 5 days and we had to live separate lives in the same house! Separe bedrooms, separate bathrooms and keep a safe distance. I was limited to the 2nd floor and he was occupying the first floor and the basement. So, I decided I could bead my special radiation warning sign! A little humor never hurts! I am now 2 months past this nightmare and can say now : What doesn't kill you... cure you! I will only know in 6 months if the poison has killed all cancer cells left in my body following the 2 thyroid ablation surgeries I had to undergo in the fall. I am hoping for the best believe me! Now is time to catch up on April and May BJP buttons!

May BJP finished!!

May is finished before the month is over, hooray! Typical Spring weather so far, and we are hoping for much much more sunshine to come. The beautiful Pheasant that has been rattling the windows with his squawking and ruffling of feathers, was my focus this month. Hope everyone is having a good time with their Journal Project. Happy Beading

Technical Problems

Hi,
I have my April and May  projects completed but have not been able to photograph them.  My technical problem is my cat Bob who loves to race around the house.  On one of his recent "journeys" he knocked over and broke one of the lamps I use when I photograph.  At not quite a year old he is still very much a kitten - a large kitten!  I just haven't had time to set up a new photography area.  Hopefully by the end of May I will be able to post them both.  I have really enjoyed this month's postings.  It is a busy time at work so my responses have been limited.  Happy Beading.

Rivoli Rings

I've decided to stop and re-group...as the butterfly idea is just not working out. Instead, I'm going to create a different ring each month, using a rivoli center in each. The inspiration came from a friends request to create a ring for her based on designs by Laura McCabe in her book Creating Crystal Jewelry with Swarovski.
Here are January, February, March and April...so I'm almost caught up!

May is complete...

Here's my May installment which satisfies the requirements of three online challenges: the Color Palette Challenge provided by Judy Laquidara and VIcki Welch; the Bead Journal Project; and the Crazy Quilt Journal Project . It uses the grid for block 52 of Sharon B.'s  "I Dropped the Button Box" crazy quilt on Pin Tangle.

It can be viewed here... http://thatyankstitches.multiply.com/journal/item/312/Two_completions_and_a_work-in-progress

Connie's May BJP

My May BJP is completed.  I wanted to try beading a butterfly and I'm pretty happy with this one.  It looks a little crooked because it is on soft fabric.  It looks better hanging and I'm sticking to that story ~ lol.

 FUSING FUN
                                           May Journal project
I wanted to share how much fun I have been having with glass fusing in my microwave. I had been looking at this microwave kiln for a couple of years and I got one and it is way too much fun. My May Journal project has a cabochon that I made that I  have been beading around. It is not quite finished but I took a minute from fusing to share in my delight.

May beaded rock

Here is this months beaded rock. This month......I used the whole box of crayons. Come on over to http://thebeadedneedle.blogspot.com/  to see the details. Everyone have a wonderfully creative month!

Double Infinity - May's pie slice in Sardonyx

My refernece color for this month's pie slice (from the Book of Revelation) is SARDONYX. I was so happy; I knew I had a black and white sardonyx stone in my stash, and I had yet to do a black and white piece this year. Once I started working on it, I realized May is the month of Mother's Day and my mom simply loved black and white and paisleys. In my cabechons stach I found some pretty white swirls that looked like paisleys, so I was ready to go! In the sardonyx, you'll find "the humility of the saints in spite of thier virtues". This is one of my favorite 'christian values' so it was fitting it wound up in the month I would be creating a tribute of sorts to my mom. (I inherited her bead stash when she died, and I've been beading ever since...) In the piece you will find the common elements I'm incorporating in each month: the pearl end piece, the tatted lace edging, and the locrosen. I also used some old French nailheads I had in my stash. They look really cool. With this month, I found I cut the ultrasuede backing a bit small, and it wants to curve on me. Hopefully, over time it will lay flat :) Hope you like it - can't believe we're almost half way through this year already!!!

Teardrop BJP #3 - Cyra

Another Teardrop pendant completed.

I've called this one "A Thousand Teardrops Fall" in memory of my faithful old Yellow Labrador who passed away at Easter aged nearly 15yrs.

The ground fabric is like angel fibre but made of red and purple straw like fibres.
The beaded "tears" are made up of about 18 beads each and the overall effect has the "tears" just hanging loose.
The pendant is threaded onto a black satin ribbon which is tied in a bow at whatever length is required.

Sleeping Swan - May BJP
This piece was inspired by a photo of a sleeping swan and the gift of lots of small swatches of fabric. Please visit my blog on the right (April Z) for more details.
