July and August, Finally

It seems I can't just finish one month's piece and post it on time; my goal is for September's piece to be completed on time and posed before the end of that month. I finished both of these over a week ago and have just taken photos and uploaded them (downloaded them?) to my computer. Each piece has approximately a 2" diameter and is both a pendant and brooch.

July is all about our trip to England, where we took a workshop at Gaunts House, near Wimbourne. It is near the Jurassic Coast, where there are lots of fossils. So, the main component is an ammonite, which I purchased at Avebury, a small village surrounded by a henge (circle). There are quite a few henges in that area, especially well known is StoneHenge, which we also visited, as well as an earthen henge without large stones, closer to our retreat. I beaded a circle of bugle beads to represent the various henges. The weather was awful for most of our trip, and the puka shell, with it's wonderful colors, is for the rain, all the blues and greens. England was really lush and we had a wonderful time in spite of the cold and rain.

August's piece is about love and family, as Art and I celebrated both his 70th birthday and our 49th Anniversary. I used 49 pearls, including the large Mabe pearl to represent each year.

So, that's it for the last two months. Happy beading!

August Beaded Rock

Finally finished this month's rock. I have been so busy between work and making earrings to sell at a local flea market I have hardly any real free time. Well anyway, here it is...

Come on over to the blog for more photos. http://thebeadedneedle.blogspot.com/

Freedom! - July's ATC is finished and posted

Here's a little peek at part of my July BJP piece, which is all about Freedom. You can see the whole ATC on my blog, here.

I've got a good start on August and should finish it before the end of the month. Everybody's work is so awesome. I'm continually impressed, inspired, and delighted!

Totally Eye Candy - Must Have Book

Hi Everybody,

As usual, I'm behind on posting my BJP work... July is finished (but not posted), August is well on the way. I'm challenged and inspired by the work all of you are posting here. Bravo!!!

The reason I'm writing today is to recommend the new Showcase Series book by Lark... 500 Beaded Jewelry. The work is sooooooooooooo fine - 500 pieces that inspire not only as jewelry, but also as design, color, technique, and creativity. Even the beads themselves are to swoon for.

I posted some pictures from this book on Beadlust, here.

Happy beading!  Robin A.

Catching up

I've just had a most enjoyable trawl through all the great pieces that have been posted this month. Each one has a special charm and individuality. I can't believe we're in August already. I hope you are all enjoying the BJP experience as much as I am.
Here's Zoë the Zebra!

Zoë is my August offering. I belong to a beading group called 'Zebras' and we've just had a lovely few days together on a beading 'retreat' in the Cotswolds. Great company, beautiful scenery, lovely food and hours and hours of indulgence. The beads are mostly 15s and her eyelashes are Nymo thread stiffened with PVA glue and curled! The oval base is edged with wooden African beads.

and ... I've finished Archie! He's been such fun to do that I'm a bit lost without him.  I shall have to scour the charity shops to see if I can find something on similar lines to turn into another major on-going project.

Here is my August crazy quilt block:

The color palette can be found here: . The grid I used was block 59 of the "I dropped the Button Box CQ" over at Pin Tangle.  Because of the stars in the red fabric lower right, I decided to use stars elsewhere on this block --- and luckily I have LOTS of star-shaped buttons so... I experimented with a button cluster, a la "Kitty and Me" to cover up a very long seam and acute angle as defined by shawkl.

While the colors in this block are somewhat subdued, they do include some from previous blocks (notably the two darker browns, the black and the dark blue). I also continued with the signature chain stitch swirl (here in a beige and in black beads) and using the crystal bead string as seam treatments, so there is some continuity among blocks.

Connie's August BJP

Following is my August BJP.  I wanted to challenge myself a little more which I definitely did with this piece.  I still see some areas I would have done differently.  To see the inspiration for this month, please visit my blog

I just never seem to tire of lace and am so amazed at the variety of lace.  Looking more closely each month as I stitch my beads onto cloth has given me a new respect for all those who create such beautiful pieces.

Tahlia: June and July

It's been a tangled up couple of months for me: a lot of travel, visits with family, a bout with the flu, etc. I didn't quite finish up my June bjp in June, but at least I started it in June! I did finish up both June and July before the end of July, but then I had a computer issue that left me somewhat disconnected from the internet for awhile. Fortunately, that's fixed now, and I can post pics for my June and July bjps!
Okay, they're not FULLY finished-- I still need to turn under the excess fabric. --But the beading itself is done. :)

August Button Done

Hi all - just finished my August piece that celebrates the Sunny Days of August... The center of the sun is a button called a Reflector Button. This is the 1st time I really tried "shading" with bead color - luckily I had a few beads (all ABs) that go together for the "fire" of the sun - a red, an orange and a yellow. Enjoy the rest of the summer, everyone. 2 more months done

two more beaded objects done for this year.

Okay, I'm up to May with a new journal cover.  Please check my blog and take a peek.  The covers (front and back) are a lot easier to see if you click on the image to enlarge it.

August bead journal

For some strange reason I had been thinking that I should only add beads to my journal pages.  Also, I have been feeling a little bored with the project this year.  That is not good.  Time to spice things up a bit.  Why not add another element?

Just posted my August BJP on my BLOG. Just click on Karen J to find it. :)

August

August's felted cuff started with the circles and became a bit formal, so I machined the edge to keep that feel.
